About Daila USA

Daila is more than just a brand.  It is a social enterprise bringing the goodness of the most traditional, organic and sustainable ingredients, crafted by the passionate communities and innovative partners who work together to create it.

With the earth and life in mind, Daila Herbal Products uses only biodegradable ingredients with essential oils that have medicinal values. Daila’s first and primary product is a natural coconut based soap that has been proven to be effective in personal care, household care, and pet care. It is a biodegradable product that contributes to the lushness of the environment.

The Daila philosophy is to create products made from the heart that nurture and preserve the environment, while helping farmers and their families rebuild. In turn, their prosperity will create a lasting and sustainable local economy and bring national pride to a community with a strong history of natural wealth.

Daila Herbal has won a number of awards recognizing its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Awards include the 2005 Peace Award for Environment (International Association of Educators for World Peace) and the Special Award of Recognition for Water and Environment (2nd Salon Mondiales Techniques, Morocco).

Daila’s first product is a natural coconut based soap that has been proven to be effective in cleaning not only the physical body (personal care) but also the residence (household) including pets (animal care) even as it contributes to the lushness of the environment.

But selling Daila’s products becomes an advocacy in itself because we cannot sell Daila without talking about health, the environment and the livelihood it gives to the community. So we impart values without preaching. We share the values of caring, giving and uniting with the underprivileged by advocating its use and by using the product. We are not only educating but by stepping up, we become part of the process. That is called spirituality in action.

As we experience the cleaning action of our products, we feel good because we have contributed and thereby cleansed our emotions and spirits too.

The destruction done by Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 affected 14.1 million people (14% of the total population of the Philippines), and displacing and destroying the livelihood of more than 4.1 million living primarily in the coconut growing regions of the Philippines.

About the Coconut Growing Regions in the Philippines

Daila produces soap from the best coconuts in the world. Traditional farming methods are basic, a consequence of the region's economic conditions. But these farming methods have allowed farmers to perfect farming methods that are sustainable and organic, using salt as a base fertilizer. Coconuts next to the sea grow better than inland coconuts and this result has been attributed to the proximity to salt. The saltiness in the air and environment keeps trees healthy and yields quality coconuts.

From Lasting Damage to Lasting Impacts

Typhoon Haiyan and other natural disasters succeeding it have severely impacted:

  1. Income Opportunities,
  2. Debt Burden,
  3. Food Access,
  4. Expenditure Needs and
  5. the Coping Capacity of the people of the Philippines.

A Community Consensus

In response to destruction by the typhoon, the community has formed a consensus to generate an immediate source of income.  People in the local areas were very interested to sell Daila soap products in their towns, as they know that Daila products are affordable, environmentally safe, and biodegradable. The community is coordinating to start replanting in areas that are in need of replanting, not only as future means of livelihood but serve as protective barriers to the elements in the near future, simultaneously, the planted Coconut trees will be cared for until they are mature enough to harvest after 5 years.
